Understand the KB-to-MB target

This page defaults to 1 MB, which is 1,000 KB or 1,000,000 bytes in decimal measurement. The exact byte count is displayed next to the control.

Check whether the receiving system uses MB or MiB. If it actually expects 1,048,576 bytes, use a custom target once binary-unit support is available.

Preserve the source instead of inventing detail

When a small image only needs a larger file container, the tool keeps its pixels and original format. A larger number of bytes does not improve focus or resolution.

Know when an MB-sized image is actually required

An MB target may appear in document evidence systems, print workflows, marketplace uploads, or portals that reject aggressively compressed photographs. Confirm that the rule is a minimum rather than a maximum: many websites say an image must be under 1MB, which calls for reduction, while this page is intended for a source that must become larger.

Also check the accepted dimensions and format. A 300-pixel thumbnail padded to 1MB still contains thumbnail-level detail. If the destination needs a larger print or readable document, start with a higher-resolution original or rescan the page before changing its file weight.

Choose JPG, PNG, or WebP for a large target

JPG is normally suitable for photographs and scanned paper because it handles continuous tones efficiently. PNG is useful for diagrams, signatures, text, and transparent artwork, but a complex PNG may already be larger than the intended limit. WebP can store photographic detail efficiently when the receiving system lists it as an accepted format.

If the source is below the MB target, preserving it avoids conversion. The exact-size operation adds trailing bytes without changing the extension, dimensions, or decoded pixels. This is appropriate for a minimum file-size rule; it is not a visual upscaler and does not make the image sharper.

Convert decimal MB into an exact byte target

Use 1,000KB for 1MB, 2,000KB for 2MB, and 5,000KB for 5MB when the destination uses decimal units. The control accepts a KB value and shows the resulting exact bytes, so you can verify the calculation before processing. Keep the requested output below the 50MB product limit.

If a technical specification explicitly says MiB, multiply by 1,048,576 bytes instead. This interface currently labels decimal KB and MB, so do not assume the two measurements are interchangeable. For a maximum rule with ambiguous units, leave a safety margin rather than aiming at the boundary.

Verify the larger result before submission

Open the downloaded file, confirm that the required software can decode it, and compare the exact byte count with the receiving instructions. Inspect any visible text, faces, transparency, and color. The appearance should match the source when preserve-and-pad is used because the compressed image stream remains untouched.

Keep the original file until the portal accepts the result. If a strict validator rejects trailing bytes, use a high-quality re-encoded export that falls inside the accepted range instead of repeatedly padding the same file. Recheck format, dimensions, aspect ratio, and filename rules at the same time.
